What the book says, the book says best in its own words. For me to interpret it, translate it into generalities and abstractions, seems perverse and foolish. I am not a teacher, not a philosopher, not a scholar, I am a novelist. I think in story. I follow where the story takes me. I try to understand where I am going. I try to tell that. But what the story "means", in any language but its own, is for the reader to decide.

So was the Supreme Court. Also? The Mariners have a better record than the Red Sox.

(Felix and Seattle. There is so much mutual love going on. It's just . . . I'm not sure we've ever had an athlete relationship quite like this before.)

Really special. The atmosphere was INCREDIBLE. (I'll expand on this later. :D At work now. Not sure if I'll do a post in my own LJ or not. I'm not sure if I'll be able to convey what I want to a largely sports-indifferent audience. But certainly I'll be happy to ramble on to you about it. :D)
